Karla Smart-Hickman
With thirteen years of performing and teaching experience, Karla Smart-Hickman is a highly qualified professional violinist and talent educator. Currently, Karla has a large studio of private violin students, studies with a member of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, and is a freelance musician in the Front Range area. Karla has extensive background in the Suzuki Method, having done long term teacher training with pedagogues such as Susan Kempter (University of New Mexico, 2006-2007), Ed Kreitman (Atlanta Suzuki Institute Practicum, 2002), Mark Bjork (University of Minnesota, 2000-2002), and Dr. Louise Scott (Northern Arizona University, 1995-2000). Karla received her Bachelor’s Degree in violin performance from Northern Arizona University in 2000. Karla also did masters work with Mark Bjork (UMN) and Carmelo De los Santos (UNM). Karla gained chamber, solo, and symphonic performance experience playing in Arizona Opera Company, Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra, Sante Fe Symphony, and in summer festivals such as Meadowmount and Brevard. Karla teaches privately in Golden, Lakewood, and Longmont. Her students range from young Suzuki violinists to experienced high school musicians, as well as adults. Karla enjoys working with all people and sincerely cares about your musical journey. Karla also loves the outdoors, spending time with her family and friends, and learning new things.
